Good Day

At the end of the day
if you smiled more than you frowned,
laughed more than you cried,
told your family and friends you loved them,
and had a pretty good time
doing what you do for a living,
then it was a good day.
Go to bed and say thanks.

January 15, 2010 Chautauqua

From the Editor's Computer

We certainly have been experiencing winter weather the last month and a half. Between the bitterly cold winds and the dump of snow, we have been kept busy shoveling on a number of days as the snow seems to keep falling and get swirled about.

I admit I am a winter fan, though not a –30 windchill winter fan! On those really cold days, I prefer to be inside where it is nice and warm.

While we may moan and complain about the winter weather, we are fortunate in Alberta as our winters are not all bitter cold. Every once in while, we are treated to the warmth of a Chinook blowing through.

I’m sure you’ll agree with me that the balmy temperatures of the past week were a very welcome respite from the bone-chilling temperatures of the previous weeks. Suddenly winter doesn’t seem so bad, or so long!

That little taste of almost-spring is just what we need to get us through the rest of the winter months.

January 1, 2010 Chautauqua

From the Editor's Computer

Here we are at the beginning of a brand new year.

In this new year...
Mend a quarrel.
Seek out a forgotten friend.
Share some treasure.
Give a soft answer.
Encourage youth.
Keep a promise.
Find the time.
Forgive an enemy.
Listen.
Apologize if you were wrong.
Think first of someone else.
Be kind and gentle.
Laugh a little. Laugh a little more.
Express your gratitude.
Gladden the heart of a child.
Take pleasure in the beauty
and wonder of the earth.
Speak your love. Speak it again.
Speak it still once again.

Happy New Year and all the best in 2010!
