Beth's Ponderings
It must be spring
fever because I am sitting here and have no idea what to write about!
At the time of this
writing, I “should” be outside working in the yard or garden. On the one hand, it’s still a little early,
yet on the other hand, the weather is so nice.
I did go out one day
and started putting the second layer of gravel on my labyrinth path - the task
I didn’t get done last year.
I “should” also be
spring cleaning the house, but housework never goes away so I always figure if
it has to wait a day or two (or weeks) it won’t hurt anything.
I “should” pull out
my bike and get some more exercise after the limited activity of winter - we
didn’t even really have a lot of snow to shovel. After two great summers of biking, my bike
didn’t even see the light of day last year, so fingers crossed I feel well
enough to try again this year.
I “should” be
sorting my seeds for the garden and making of list of what I need to buy and
what seedlings I should get. Though, I
prefer to do that just before I need to put them in the ground as there is no
point having everything in place too early.
I “should” be doing
my income tax. Thankfully, when I do get
to it, it will be fairly quick and straightforward.
I “could” be having
an afternoon nap - and I’d probably feel better if I did, but I haven't been
able to nap during the day since I was a preschooler.
I “could” be
working on any of my umpteen unfinished projects around the house.
There is LOTS I “should” or “could” be doing - besides getting this Ponderings written for you to read - but truthfully, the only thing I feel like doing is curling up in the chair by the sunny window and listening to the birds sing, so that’s just what I’ll do.

Beth's Ponderings
I recently finished
reading “You-turn” by Ashley Stahl. Last
year I had heard an interview with the author and was intrigued enough to want
to read her book.
A You-turn is when
you face a moment when you have no choice but to go a different direction in
your life, and often that new direction brings you closer to the path you would
have been on if you’d listened to your heart in the first place.
One of the author’s
theme that I really liked was that she highlighted that we should not do what
we love (she considers that very poor career advice), and instead do what we
ARE (our core values and natural talents/skills).
For instance, while
we may love such activities as cooking, flower arranging, eating pizza, or
playing hockey, that doesn’t mean that we should make a career out of those
activities and become a professional chef, open a flower shop or pizzeria, or
try to get into the NHL.
On the other hand,
if your core values and natural talents align with those activities, then that
may be a good career fit for you. It is
more about following your natural strengths, not just what you enjoy.
It seems that as life gets more hectic and fast-paced, many people have given up on hobbies - those activities that we do just for the sheer joy of doing them. Maybe it’s time to revisit some of those activities you love - not to monetize them - just to bring more joy into your life?

Beth's Ponderings
May the leprechauns be near you
to spread luck along your way,
And may all the Irish angels smile upon you
on St. Pat’s Day!
May the luck of the Irish possess you,
May the Devil fly off with your worries,
May God bless you forever and ever.

My Artist Voice #23 March 8, 2024
- On March 3rd, the 2024 calendar journal I ordered from Virginia Rosenberg (back in January!) finally arrived! I started filling out the various prompts to get myself up to date, and I'll continue to use this - in conjunction with the Moonology diary - for the rest of the year.
- In Inner Circle, we were challenged to pick a (daily) practice that would stretch ourselves on various levels. After Amber led us through a guided meditation, what popped into my mind for a practice was seated forward bends! Not sure why or where that came from, but I'm going with it. Despite doing yoga for years, and graduating last year from my yoga teacher training, seated forward bends have not been a pose that I could do, so this will be a stretch (pun intended).
