Do you know what you enjoy spending your time doing for leisure and/or relaxation?

Before you scoff at how obvious the answer may seem - “of course, I do.  Everyone does” - it isn’t really that obvious.

Many people don’t know what they enjoy doing for fun.  They know that others have told them they would enjoy, however they haven’t taken the time to really experience for themselves the answer to the question.

Why do we let other people control our lives that way?  Why do we let other people dictate our likes and dislikes?

Why don’t we decide for ourselves?

During these cold wintry days, why don’t you take some time to discover what you enjoy doing for leisure and relaxation.  Don’t ask other what they think you should do...decide for yourself what you ultimately know you enjoy doing.

Then see if you can start doing it today!

Enjoy

My advice to you
is not to inquire why or whither,
but just enjoy your ice cream
while it’s on your plate.

Can

Life's battles don't always go
to the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later,
the man who wins
is the man who thinks he can.

January 7, 2011 Chautauqua

From the Editor's Computer

Humans have a remarkable ability to complicate the simplest things.

For example, I’m slogging my way through “13 Ways of Looking at the Novel” by Jane Smiley - it is very textbook-like, with a mere 570 pages plus an index (I’m only on page 214!). In that massive number of pages, the author is basically saying that every novel is unique because every novelist and every reader is unique. She is taking 570 pages to say what I just said in twelve words!

We complicate our schedules, our relationships, our jobs, our homes, our hobbies, and basically every aspect of life - some by choice and some by default.

So this New Year, I wish for you more simplicity in all areas of your life. Less complexity and more peace. Less anxiety and more relaxation. Because...When all is said and done in this crazy world, the simplest answer is usually the right one (Ockham’s Razor: paraphrase).

Control

We cannot always control our thoughts,
but we can control our words,
and repetition impresses the subconscious,
and we are then master of the situation.

Giving

Only giving creates human dignity.
Only giving opens up the soul.
Only giving can miraculously change a life.
Only giving works at soul level and
radiates outward to every area of your experience.
Only givers get.
Only givers live a truly fulfilled, powerful,
positive, happy and deeply meaningful life.
