Happiness

True happiness needs no reason,
no special equipment, no money,
no perfect moment, no permission,
no justification, and no ideal circumstances.
Being happy is about folding back into
something already innate in you.

Circumstances

Understand that although we may well wish
to do what we are supposed to do,
circumstances will conspire
to ensure that it is not always possible.

Allow

Give up trying to “make it happen”

of a better way and an easier way.

Who

Satisfaction does not stem
from what we do,
but from who we get to be
while we are doing it.

From the Editor's Computer

I get some interesting reactions from people when I tell them I have a stressed liver.

Some are sure I need a liver transplant.  I don’t.  My liver is merely tired from working too hard.  It is not damaged.

Some need a “label” (aka diagnosis) to wrap their heads around what my situation is.  A stressed liver obviously isn’t a good enough description or label in their minds.  They want to hear that I have something more exotic like fibromyalgia or celiac disease.  A stressed liver is too plain and ordinary.

Others say: “Never heard of it” or “an organ can’t be stressed” and they completely shut down.  As far as they are concerned, if they have not heard of it, it doesn't exist, and for them, it doesn’t and never will.

It is entirely possible for any body part or organ to be stressed.  A heart attack results from a stressed heart.  Diabetes is from a severely stressed pancreas.  Cramps are the result of stressed muscles.  I could go on and on.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio/Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. “  Shakespeare, Hamlet

There really is so little we truly know about our world, our bodies, and even ourselves.

We should be willing to learn what we can and invite conversation by saying, “I’ve never heard of it.  Tell me more…”

Gone

We don’t need to learn how to let go,
we just need to recognize
when something is already gone.

From the Editor's Computer

Well, since I wrote my last editorial, I have learnt that I am showing steady (albeit very slow) improvement, and I found out I was much worse than I ever thought or considered possible.

I was told in a follow-up appointment that 4 months ago, at my first appointment, on a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being worst), I was 30+ and very close to death!  I am now at a 10, which is definite improvement, however I am still dangerously sick.  I’m just not facing imminent death like I (unknowingly) was before.

It also seems I may have had this health problem for my entire life.  Not only was it a shock to discover how seriously ill I was, it has also been a shock to discover that even when I felt my healthiest, I was only about 10 - 15% healthy!  I guess I have never felt truly healthy in my life.

Our bodies are quite amazing when you consider how they keep going no matter how bad they are, or how much we may abuse them.  Your organs and systems will continue to work to keep you alive even if conditions are such that they are only operating at 10% capacity.

So, I am now facing an even longer road ahead of me as I journey towards total health, but instead of retracing my steps along a familiar route, it seems I am venturing onto a path I’ve never been on before.

As I move forward into this great unknown territory, I am discovering  (slowly) that life isn’t really as hard or challenging as we tend to perceive it to be, or make it.  Life is really easy...if we choose to let it be.

Questions

What shapes our lives
are the questions we ask,
refuse to ask,

Deciding

Every moment of your life
you are deciding
1) who you are,
2) what you want,
3) what you can do, and
4) what you deserve and what you don’t.
