Life

Fortunately psychoanalysis  is not
the only way to resolve inner conflicts.
 Life itself still remains
a very effective therapist.

Love

Every incident is nourishing,
every circumstance is nourishing,
every word is nourishing,
every sound is nourishing,
because the same love
 is in everything and everyone.

Courage

It isn’t for the moment you are struck
that you need courage,
but for the long uphill climb
back to sanity and faith and security.

From the Editor's Computer

How fast is today going for you?  How about this week?  This month?  Dare I even ask about this year or decade?

We are three-quarters of the way through JULY already?  Where is the time going?

How do we slow life down?  Is it possible to slow life down?

The other day I read that time flies by as fast as your thoughts race. Uh oh!  I’m sure most of us have minds that just won’t quit, racing here and there, past to future and back again, going over the same territory, thinking the exact same thoughts over and over and over again.

Yet, the secret to slowing down life is to slow down your thoughts.

No matter what is going on in life, we can all take a moment to slow down not only our breathing, but also our thoughts.  Take a minute or two during your day to really focus on what is directly in front of you.  In that way, we can change the course of our day (as well as our years).

When we consistently, and daily, take a moment - it doesn’t have to be very long - to slow down, we will start to develop the habit of noticing more and more around us.

Rather than life flying by us in an endless blur as we are on autopilot, we are able to experience life’s special and unique moments, savouring them one at a time.

Summer is a great time to start building this new habit before the craziness of fall schedules set in.

So, pause...breathe, and allow yourself to enjoy the present moment.

With every person we engage,
in everything we do,
we must be kinder than expected,
more generous than anticipated,
more positive than we thought possible.

From the Editor's Computer

A couple of weeks ago, as I got into my car, I heard on the radio the comment, “They turned on him because he wasn’t as worried as they were...they thought he should be miserable like them.”

   Those words stuck with me.

Why would you turn on someone who is not feeling or experiencing exactly what you are?

Instead of turning on the mysterious “him,” they should have looked to him as an example.  How is he able to be calm in the present situation?  Why isn’t he miserable?  Does he know something that they didn’t?  They should have figured out how they could be more like him?

Rather than attacking those who don’t see, or experience, a situation in the manner in which we do, we should find out why they don’t and how we can change our reactions and perceptions, because often it is only a different reaction or perception that separates someone who is calm in a situation and someone who panics in the same situation.

One happy person in a crowd of long-faced downers should be able to shift the mood from blue to cheery.  Yet, how many times does the dejectedness of the group sucks the joy out of the individual.

We’ve all heard, and may have even uttered, the phrase, “Misery loves company,” yet we don’t seem to apply it to happiness.  Why?

Joy and enthusiasm love company too, and our world is a much better place when more of us are happy and enthusiastic.

Knock

When a moment knocks on the door of your life,
it is often no louder
than the beating of your heart,
and it is very easy to miss.
