July 20, 2012 Chautauqua

From the Editor's Computer

How fast is today going for you?  How about this week?  This month?  Dare I even ask about this year or decade?

We are three-quarters of the way through JULY already?  Where is the time going?

How do we slow life down?  Is it possible to slow life down?

The other day I read that time flies by as fast as your thoughts race. Uh oh!  I’m sure most of us have minds that just won’t quit, racing here and there, past to future and back again, going over the same territory, thinking the exact same thoughts over and over and over again.

Yet, the secret to slowing down life is to slow down your thoughts.

No matter what is going on in life, we can all take a moment to slow down not only our breathing, but also our thoughts.  Take a minute or two during your day to really focus on what is directly in front of you.  In that way, we can change the course of our day (as well as our years).

When we consistently, and daily, take a moment - it doesn’t have to be very long - to slow down, we will start to develop the habit of noticing more and more around us.

Rather than life flying by us in an endless blur as we are on autopilot, we are able to experience life’s special and unique moments, savouring them one at a time.

Summer is a great time to start building this new habit before the craziness of fall schedules set in.

So, pause...breathe, and allow yourself to enjoy the present moment.

Beth
