Beth's Ponderings

Garden Rule: When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. (author unknown)

As my health (strength and stamina) improves, I have been able to keep on top of the weeding a bit more easily this year (well, as far as realistically and humanly possible to keep ahead of weeds).  I decided, to help with the process of weed control, to be more proactive about eating the edible weeds (ie chickweed, purslane/portulaca, Johnny Jump-up flowers, etc.) in my salads because, in the past, I have found that once I start eating them, the numbers decrease dramatically. Well, so far this has backfired as it seems Mother Nature doesn’t want me to starve and has made sure there is an abundance of edible weeds for me to feast on.
