In Frank MacEowen’s book, “The Celtic Way of Seeing: meditations on the Irish Spirit Wheel,” there is an interesting section on a poetic process called geancannach or “Celtic love talking.”

Celtic love talking is an ancient poetic practice which connects one to the life and world around themselves - until one’s whole life becomes the poem.

The format of the poem is a very simple “Beautiful...beautiful too.” For example: “Beautiful the sunrise, beautiful too the fresh snowfall.” The poem flows along, keeping to this basic format, in a continuous movement of gratefulness and observation of what is all around us.

By using the Celtic love talk poetic practice, we become more aware of the world around us and our role in it...and become more thankful for what we have.

One question that the poets were addressing through the love talk process was: “Do you love any place or person so much that you will open your heart, eyes, and mouth and say so?” (pg. 89)
